Service Description
IMPRESSIONIST FLOWERS IN SOY WAX BATIK This four week mini session is an exploration of expressive abstract techniques applied to silk. A contemporary approach to Batik, resulting in beautiful fine art for wall hangings or wearable scarves. Students will employ a loose, abstract and painterly approach in rendering floral imagery on silk. Working on a 22"x22" silk square suspended and stretched on a frame, students will be influenced and inspired by the French impressionist painters and their floral bouquets, sprays and fields of flowers. Participants may bring a collection of floral photos as reference, or refer to available images provided by the instructor. Absolutely no painting or drawing experience necessary! When considering the French Impressionist painters, one may think of Renoir with his vases of roses or chrysanthemums, or sunflowers in a vase by Monet. Mary Cassettes’ Lilacs in a Window are a loosely rendered interpretation of lilacs. Florals have been a popular subject of painters throughout history, they are almost a textural element in an abstract painting. In this class we will explore how to use soy wax batik to render impressionistic and abstracted interpretations of flowers. Students should bring paper towels and disposable gloves. Supply fee: $20.00 payable to the instructor at the first class covers all other supplies. Class must meet min of 4 students by April 14 to run.

Cancellation Policy
1. The Art Center reserves the right to cancel classes or camps due to insufficient enrollment. If The Art Center cancels a class or camp, registrants will receive a refund. We reserve the right to substitute an instructor if necessary. 2. The Art Center does not pro-rate class or camp fees. 3. Membership fees are non-refundable. 4. Four business days notice must be given before the start of the first class if you wish to cancel. 5. Registration changes and cancellations will incur an administrative fee of $30. 6. Refunds will be processed within 30 days after the 1st day of the start of class. 6a. For high demand classes: if you cancel your registration and vacate your seat, we will retain 50% of your initial registration fee to pay the instructor, if the seat cannot be filled. This is in addition to the $30 administration fee. 7. No refunds will be issued for cancellations made after the beginning of the class or camp.
